Did you know that each year, tens of millions birds pass through Philadelphia during fall migration? Unfortunately, many are killed when they fly into buildings, confused by artificial lights at night or by reflective or transparent glass surfaces. ⁠
How can you help? ⁠
Citywide, a simple action like turning out lights can help birds navigate our environment and protect them, potentially reducing deaths up to 80%. Learn more via the link in bio! ⁠

A Bird Safe Philly program, Lights Out Philly is the result of a collaborative effort led by the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University, Delaware Valley Ornithological Club, Audubon Mid-Atlantic, Valley Forge Audubon Society and Wyncote Audubon Society. In addition to the City of Philadelphia’s Office of Sustainability, the Bird Safe Philly initiative is endorsed by the Building Owners and Managers Association Philadelphia, the Building Industry Association of Philadelphia, and PECO. ⁠

Centered around the importance of watershed thinking in our lives, Watershed Moment is designed to inspire a greater connection with our local waterways and the vital need to protect them. It is comprised of four installations created by artists in response to watershed science and the physical realities of water as it moves across and through our urban landscape. Build traps (we recommend the circle trap method), smash adults and nymphs when you see them and scrape egg masses before they hatch!
